Tennessee defensive tackle Quay Picou is no longer on the Vols’ roster.

Picou was not listed on the roster today at the start of spring practice. Head coach Jeremy Pruitt confirmed his departure in his first post-practice press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

“Right now, Quay is not on the team,” Pruitt said after the Vols finished practice on Tuesday. “He has left the team. So, he won’t be with us this spring.”

Pruitt’s comments leave some room for a chance that Picou could return. But for now, he won’t be on the roster for spring ball. Last season as a junior, Picou played in eight games for the Vols. He recorded six tackles, including three in the season opener against Georgia Tech. He had just 11 total tackles, half a tackle for loss, and a fumble recovery in 20 total game appearances.

With his departure, the Vols are even thinner at defensive tackle. Tennessee now has just six scholarship defensive linemen who have played significant minutes in college.
