Offensive linemen are important for every recruiting class. But they’re especially important for Tennessee in their 2019 class as they look to improve their depth and overall talent for a unit that struggled mightily in 2017.
And on Saturday, the Vols got some good news in the recruitment of one of the nation’s top offensive tackles.
Kenyon Green is a five-star offensive tackle from Humble, Texas. He released his list of top 10 schools on Saturday, and the Vols made the cut.

According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Green is the No. 2 offensive tackle in the 2019 class and is the No. 12 overall player in the country. He’s also the top-ranked player in the state of Texas per those rankings.
The 6-foot-4, 317 pound tackle holds offers from all the top schools. Along with the schools in his top 10, he also holds offers from Florida State, Arizona, Michigan, Notre Dame, and others.
Green’s enormous frame benefits him well in high school, and it will translate to the next level of play too. He has a large base that he uses to drive off the line of scrimmage in run blocking. He moves very well for his size, and he absorbs defenders effectively. He’ll likely need to trim down a bit once he gets to college, but he has great intangibles.
Plucking Green out of Texas or drawing him away from schools like Alabama and Georgia won’t be easy. But the Vols will definitely have playing time to sell, and they need someone like Green on their roster.
