3. Kyle Phillips, DL
Speaking of former five-stars who haven’t lived up to their potential, Kyle Phillips hasn’t had nearly as productive of a Tennessee career that he would’ve liked thus far.
Injuries prevented Phillips from making a huge impact during his freshman year, and an ill-fated position switch to defensive tackle in his sophomore campaign hindered his development as well. Last year was Phillips’ most productive season as a Vol, totaling 35 tackles, two sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss, and two passes defended.
Tennessee will have a ton of competition on the defensive line before the start of the season. And that competition could even bleed over into the season. Phillips, as a senior, has one last shot of making a name for himself as a Vol.
Phillips almost more than any other defensive lineman on Tennessee’s roster needs a big spring. And this spring is the perfect opportunity for him.
