9. Latrell Williams, WR
There appears to be a clear pecking order in Tennessee’s wide receiver corps right now. Jauan Jennings won’t be with the team during the spring, but once he returns in the fall he’ll be the No. 1 target. Marquez Callaway and Brandon Johnson are likely the next two targets, and there’s a chance true freshman Alontae Taylor comes in and earns the fourth spot in the rotation this spring as an early enrollee.
That is, unless rising redshirt sophomore Latrell Williams can take that spot.
Williams seemed like the perfect slot receiver for the Vols’ spread offense under Butch Jones. But injuries never really let Williams shine, and he only appeared in one game last season as a redshirt freshman.
There’s plenty of competition at wide receiver for the Vols. Because along with Callaway, Johnson, and Taylor this spring, there’s also Jordan Palmer, Jordan Murphy, Princeton Fant, and Jacques Jones.
Williams will need to display his speed and show he’s improved his hands to work his way up the depth chart. A good showing in spring could earn him a solid spot in the rotation of receivers this season.
