A Look at the Vols’ Top 5 NCAA Tournament Wins

2014 vs. Iowa

The 2013-14 season was full of ups and downs for the Vols. Tennessee largely underachieved for most of the season, but they were able to get hot in February and made it to the semifinals of the SEC Tournament. All of that was enough to help the Vols sneak into the NCAA Tournament for one of the play-in games as an 11-seed

Tennessee started out lackluster against the Hawkeyes of Iowa, and it looked like the Vols might be one and done in their first NCAA Tournament appearance under Cuonzo Martin.

But then the Vols turned it on in the second half.

Iowa still doesn’t know what hit them in the second half and overtime. The Vols fought back to tie the game then dominated the Hawkeyes in overtime, winning by a score of 78-65. Tennessee outscored Iowa 14-1 in overtime.

The Vols would use the momentum from this game and the luck of Duke getting upset by Mercer to make a run to the Sweet Sixteen, their fifth in program history since 1985.
