When it comes to tough runners, scouts think you won’t find a better pound-for-pound back in this class than John Kelly. They love his ability to gain yards after contact, his stiff arm, and his versatility as a pass catcher. Scouts also like his ability as a pass blocker.

Though Kelly is stout and effective, his size is a bit of a concern, and scouts aren’t convinced he could be an every down back because of his lack of true explosion and inability to consistently to escape tacklers around the edge. They also think he lacks creativity between the tackles.

Kelly has his drawbacks, but his positives outweigh the negatives according to scouts. He could be the first Vol drafted this year, but he’ll still likely be a Day 3 pick.
