Vols’ Top Needs for 2019 Recruiting Class

2. Safety

Tennessee’s whole defensive backfield needs help in the 2019 class, but safety is a bigger priority than corner because of depth concerns.

The Vols will be losing Todd Kelly Jr. and Micah Abernathy after this season due to graduation. There’s a shot they lose Nigel Warrior too because he can declare early for the draft after this season. That would leave the Vols with just Maleik Gray and Theo Jackson at the position. Trevon Flowers could potentially be there as well.

From a depth perspective, no other position is a bigger need than safety. The Vols must add at least two safeties in this cycle in order to ensure they aren’t woefully thin at the position in 2019 and 2020.

  1. Surprised not to see RB on this list. Other than Chandler, and to some extent Fils-Aime, there is nobody with any meaningful experience, and we didn’t really address that need in this year’s class.
