Hot Board: Vols’ Running Back Coach Candidates

Burton Burns

Quick Bio: If you’re looking for experience, look no further than Burton Burns. He’s been the running backs coach for Alabama since 2007, and he coached running backs for Clemson from 1999 to 2006 before that. And if you know anything about Alabama football, it’s that they have some of the best running backs in college football.

Pros: Burns’ track record speaks for itself. Granted, Alabama pulls in more talent at running back than just about any other school, but every player needs coaching. And Burns has done just that, helping the Tide produce star running back after star running back over the last decade-plus. Pruitt has an obvious relationship with Burns given that the two have coached together at Alabama.

Cons: Getting Burns would be a long shot. Pulling him away from the Tide would be extremely difficult even with Pruitt having a relationship with him. His age (65) would also mean he’s probably not a long-term solution, but he’s far from old and washed up.
