Hot Board: Vols’ Running Back Coach Candidates

Des Kitchings

Quick Bio: Kitching’s name floated around when Pruitt was still searching for a wide receivers coach earlier this offseason, so there’s a good chance it floats around with this position too. Kitchings has been the running backs coach for NC State since 2012, and they gave him the recruiting coordinator title in 2014 as well. He’s also coached at Air Force, Vanderbilt, and Furman.

Pros: Kitchings has been a solid recruiter for the Wolfpack, and he’s helped develop their rushing game into a formidable ground attack. He also has SEC experience with the three seasons he spent at Vanderbilt.

Cons: Though he did coach at Vanderbilt, Kitchings hasn’t had to recruit or coach players at a big time program in the SEC or in college football. Vanderbilt and NC State are at different levels than Tennessee.
