Five-Star Defensive End Set to Visit Vols

Tennessee’s coaches are making a strong run at the 2019 recruiting class and are hoping to haul in a great deal of highly-rated players. Jeremy Pruitt and his staff were able to salvage the Vols’ 2018 class fairly well, but they’re aiming for the sky in the 2019 class.

And now they have a big time visitor set to be in Knoxville this weekend.

Zacch Pickens is the top player in the state of South Carolina and is ranked as a five-star defensive end by the 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s rated as the No. 2 strong-side defensive end in the 2019 class and the No. 21 overall player in the class. And on Saturday, he plans to visit Tennessee according to the Sports Talk Radio Network in South Carolina.

Pickens holds an offer from the Vols’ previous coaching staff, but Pruitt and his staff likely stand a better chance at landing someone like Pickens than Tennessee’s old staff. Pickens currently holds offers from most of the top programs in college football, including Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, Florida State, Miami, Michigan, and others.

The 6-foot-3, 244 pound defensive end is a force on the defensive line. He routinely blows plays up in the backfield and uses his athleticism and strength to bully past offensive linemen.

Pickens visited South Carolina’s junior day back in late January, and he has unofficially visited both the Gamecocks and Clemson multiple times already. This will be his first visit to Tennessee.

The Vols will need more defensive linemen in their 2019 class, and expect them to be targeting players like Pickens to fill those needs.
