Kurott Garland, DL
Numbers aren’t everything. But when you put up the type of stats that Kurott Garland did in high school, that grabs attention.
In his final two seasons at Heritage High School in Conyers, Georgia, Garland posted some monster numbers. In 23 games, Garland amassed 251 tackles, 65 tackles for loss, 24.5 sacks, and 31 quarterback hurries. That’s nearly 11 tackles a game, almost three tackles for loss a game, and over a sack per game in his final two years of high school.
No matter what level of competition that’s against, that’s incredible.
Garland isn’t just a stat freak, though; he’s a physical freak too. Though he’ll need to find a natural position and needs to work on his footwork and pad level, Garland has all the tools you could want in a defensive lineman. And this is from a player who wasn’t ranked for almost all his recruitment and ended up just a three-star and the No. 1,173 overall player once he did get ranked.
The Vols were originally looking at Garland’s teammate, wide receiver Jordan Young (who ultimately flipped to Florida State after committing to the Vols), when they looked at Heritage High School. But they may have found another steal in the 2018 class in Garland.
