National Signing Day was front and center on Wednesday, but Tennessee’s coaches were already focusing on the Vols’ next recruiting class after all the festivities died down.
2019 wide receiver Elijah Higgins tweeted out on Wednesday night that Tennessee had extended a scholarship offer to him. Higgins is a four-star receiver out of Texas and is listed as the No. 325 overall player in the 2019 class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. The regular 247Sports rankings have him rated as the No. 217 overall player and No. 37 receiver.

Higgins picked up multiple offers on Wednesday, as he received offers from Tennessee, Stanford, and TCU all on the same day. He also holds offers from Ohio State, Auburn, Texas, Texas A&M, and many others.
The 6-foot-3, 215 pound receiver has a huge frame and knows how to use it. He high points passes several times in his highlight film and contorts his body to make leaping, athletic grabs. He’s also a lot faster than you might expect and is elusive. He was productive as a junior and could jump up in recruiting rankings even more with a solid senior season.
Prying a recruit out of the state of Texas is never easy for schools outside of the state. The Vols currently have one scholarship player on their roster from the state of Texas, and that’s quarterback Will McBride. Tennessee didn’t sign any players out of Texas in their 2018 class either. But expect Pruitt and his staff to target several players in that state in this upcoming cycle.
The Vols were disappointed on National Signing Day, but that doesn’t mean their 2018 class as a whole is disappointing. But Vol fans have much higher expectations for Tennessee’s 2019 class, and Pruitt and his staff are already firing away trying to build a strong foundation for the next class.
