The Vols have officially added their second prospect to their 2018 class on National Signing Day. And they had to fight off Clemson to get him.

Trevon Flowers, a three-star safety out of Tucker, Georgia, chose the Vols over Clemson on Wednesday. Flowers is rated as the No. 1,040 overall player and No. 87 safety according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. The regular 247Sports has Flowers ranked a little higher, giving him a overall ranking of 708 instead.

Flowers is an interesting prospect. He was originally slated to play baseball for Kentucky, but football began to intrigue him more and more. And he picked up a lot of momentum late in the recruiting cycle.

Tennessee was able to get Flowers to visit campus on the last recruiting weekend of the 2018 cycle, and they offered him his second Power Five scholarship in football back on January 15th. Flowers visited Clemson late in January, and the Tigers extended an offer to him then. It looked like Clemson might be able to swoop in late and nab him, but the Vols were able to fight them off and earned a rare recruiting victory over the vaunted Tigers.

At 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, Flowers has the type of frame coaches want in a safety. His film shows off his awareness and instincts, and he’s a bit of a ball hawk.

The Vols now have 16 players in their 2018 signing class. Flowers joins three-star defensive end John Mincey as the first signees for the Vols on National Signing Day.
