Tennessee has quickly emerged as a favorite to land Taiyon Palmer despite offering him a scholarship only two weeks ago. And the Vols should be doing everything they can to land the four-star corner out of Georgia.

Palmer decommitted from Duke on November 30th of last year, and his recruitment has exploded since then. Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Arkansas, and Tennessee have all offered him since he decommitted, and they aren’t the only schools to extend scholarships to Palmer in that span. Palmer visited the Vols this past weekend, and Tennessee has done enough to separate themselves and earn a place in his top three along with Nebraska and N.C. State.

Palmer is the type of physical, big bodied corner that could thrive in Pruitt’s defense. He knows how to get into a receiver’s head, and he’s athletic enough that he played several different positions in high school. Palmer was used as a corner, a receiver, and a return man for Archer High School in Lawrenceville, Georgia. And that athleticism is part of the reason why he’s a four-star and rated as the No. 278 overall player in the 2018 class.

The Vols’ biggest remaining position of need is cornerback. Palmer isn’t the only corner they’re targeting or need to land, but he’s one of the top prospects at the position. Tennessee could use his services in 2018 and beyond.
