Jonathan Kongbo
From posts on social media this offseason, it would appear that Jonathan Kongbo is making a position change for 2018. And that could be just what the underperforming rising redshirt senior needs to finally play up to some of his potential.
When Kongbo came into Tennessee, he was a raw talent with an extremely high ceiling. Yet he’s not been able even scratch that potential for the most part. Kongbo has just 40 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks in his two seasons with Tennessee.
Kongbo has looked, at times, like a great pass rusher at the SEC level. But he’s also looked like he’s in over his head at times. The biggest key to success for Kongbo will be to have some consistency. Maybe he can find that at his new position if he does switch there.
But one thing is for certain: Tennessee’s new coaches know how to coach defense and get the most out of defensive talent. Kongbo may finally be able to thrive in their system.
