The story that started it all. Kind of.

After weeks of Vol fans getting angrier and angrier, John Currie finally pulled the plug on Butch Jones as Tennessee’s head coach after a blowout 50-17 loss to Missouri on the road. Tennessee was a loss away from being eliminated from bowl contention at that point, and Tennessee’s offense had become abysmal over the last month-plus of play.

It was time to move on from Jones, and he was finally fired after one of the worst starts to a Tennessee football season in program history (it would only get worse, however). Jones finished his tenure at Tennessee with a 34-27 record overall and a 14-24 record in SEC play.

Jones lost to Vanderbilt twice and lost to Kentucky during the 2017 season. He was let go 10 games into the season, and the search was on for a new head coach.

Stay tuned to see how that turned out.
