Many Vol fans were clamoring for former Tennessee quarterback and current USC offensive coordinator Tee Martin to at least get an interview for the Vols’ vacant head coaching position once Butch Jones was fired.
But according to Martin himself, that never happened. And he’s left disappointed by it.
According to Bill Rabinowitz, an Ohio State beat writer for The Dispatch, Martin told him in an interview that he was “disappointed” he never received an interview for Tennessee’s head coaching position. Martin also stated that Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano would’ve been a good coach for the Vols.
Just finished USC interviews. Trojans OC Tee Martin, the former Tennessee QB, said was disappointed not to get an interview w his alma mater, but said he thought Greg Schiano would have been a good coach for Vols. (story to come).

Many Vol fans would disagree with Martin’s statement at the end of Rabinowitz’s report.
Schiano was famously rejected as a potential head coach of Tennessee before he was officially signed. Vol fans, former players, and politicians revolted on the day the news leaked about him being the potential signing. After that happened, many Vol fans decided they wanted someone with Tennessee ties as head coach.
The fans who wanted that didn’t get it. Instead, they did get Phillip Fulmer as the Athletic Director, and he ended up hiring Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt as the Vols’ head coach.
Martin’s USC Trojans will take on Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl on Friday, December 29th of this week.
