New Tennessee Athletics Director Phillip Fulmer will be honored during the Tennessee Titans’ game against the Jacksonville Jaguars this upcoming weekend.
According to Jim Wyatt of TitansOnline.com, Fulmer will be the Honorary 12th Titan for Sunday’s divisional match-up with the Jaguars. The 12th Titan is a way to honor and recognize both Titans fans and interesting or touching stories across sports. Fulmer is a big figure in Tennessee sports across the state.
The Titans are clinging to playoff hopes and need a win in order to make it into the playoffs for the first time since 2008. If the Titans defeat Jacksonville on Sunday, they’re in the playoffs. If they lose, however, they’ll need some help in order to make it to postseason play.
Fulmer was just named Tennessee’s new AD on December 1st after John Currie was suspended after a convoluted and embarrassing coaching search failed to produce a new coach. Fulmer took over and had Jeremy Pruitt named as head coach within a week on the job.
As a coach, Fulmer led Tennessee to the national title in 1998 and won 151 of his 204 games he coached with the Vols. He helped lead Tennessee to two SEC titles and 15 bowl games.
