After losing commitments from both their quarterbacks in their 2018 class, Tennessee desperately needed to find at least one quarterback to sign with them this cycle. And it appears they have their player.

J.T. Shrout is a three-star quarterback out of Newhall, California. He had been committed to Cal since June of this year, but he officially announced his decommitment from the Golden Bears on Tuesday night, mere hours before he planned to make a decision about where he will attend college.

Tennessee offered Shrout back on December 13th, and he visited Tennessee this past weekend. New Vol offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Tyson Helton watched Shrout play while he was at USC, and he believes Shrout will fit his system at Tennessee. In his only year as a starter for Newhall, Shrout threw for 3,064 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions while completing 51 percent of his passes.

With Shrout decommitting on Tuesday night and showing so much interest in the Vols, it would be shocking if he doesn’t end up signing with Tennessee.
