2. Defensive Back
New Vols head coach Jeremy Pruitt specializes in defensive backs. He’s already shuffled around Tennessee’s 2018 class from that position, and he and his staff have been offering a multitude of defensive backs. And Tennessee needs plenty of them in this class.
The Vols currently have no defensive backs committed in their 2018 class, and they’re losing at least three defensive backs off the roster this offseason. It remains to be seen if Evan Berry will attempt to return with a medical redshirt, but he didn’t play safety much even when healthy. Todd Kelly Jr. is coming back for a fifth season, so that will help.
But Tennessee’s cornerbacks are taking a big hit with Justin Martin, Emmanuel Moseley, and Shaq Wiggins all leaving the roster.
Tennessee needs to add two or three cornerbacks in this class, and getting at least one safety commitment would be preferable as well. The Vols need depth and future starters at these positions from this class.
