It’s looking more and more like Tennessee may finally have their head coach. Not long after reports surfaced that Tennessee had offered Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt the position, more reports came out that Pruitt had accepted the offer and was finalizing the deal.
If Pruitt is, indeed, the Vols’ next head football coach, then the next round of questions will be about his coaching staff. And one of those questions has reportedly been answered.
According to Mark Schlabach of ESPN, former Vol quarterback and current USC offensive coordinator Tee Martin isn’t expected to join Pruitt’s staff at Tennessee should Pruitt finalize the deal and be the next head coach. Schlabach states that Martin was contacted by Tennessee athletics director Phillip Fulmer, but he was never interviewed for the job.
Schlabach doesn’t say if Martin was never interviewed for the head coaching position or the offensive coordinator position, but he did specify that Martin isn’t expected to come on as Tennessee’s offensive coordinator under Pruitt.
Martin has been the offensive coordinator for USC for the last two years, and he’s been on staff with the Trojans since 2012. He was the quarterback for the Vols when Tennessee went 13-0 and won their national championship in 1998.
