According to multiple reports, Tennessee got rejected yet again in their search for a new head football coach.

N.C. State head coach Dave Doeren was offered the job and was weighing Tennessee’s offer against an improved offer from his current employer. And according to both ESPN and FOX Sports, Doeren elected to stay at N.C. State.

Adam Rittenberg of ESPN reported that Doeren spoke with Tennessee officials on Wednesday about the vacancy but will remain in Raleigh at N.C. State. Rittenberg also reports that Doeren is expected to get a new and improved contract from the Wolfpack. Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports confirmed the report.

Doeren joins a growing list of coaches who have turned down the Vols in recent days. Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano was rejected by Tennessee fans, politicians, and media on Sunday. Since then, David Cutcliffe, Mike Gundy, and reportedly Jeff Brohm have all turned down the Vols. Now Doeren has as well.

Where do the Vols turn after this most recent rejection? We’ll have news as it develops.
