Just when you think the Vols’ search for a new head football coach can’t get any crazier, it does. Tennessee experienced yet another round of confusing twists and turns on Wednesday, and we reacted to it and provided Vol fans with the latest updates on the search.
The Vols began Wednesday looking like they might end up with a head coach after all. Then as the day progressed, it became more and more apparent that the Vols didn’t have their man. Yet again.

Not Doeren. Someone to compete against Saban, Malzahn, Smart, Mullen, etc. And on a national level.

Somebody should give Mark Helfrich a call. He’s got no southern ties–he’s not a recruiter; he’s an x’s and o’s man, but he could get guys on staff with regional connections for recruiting, he’s dealt with a big-time boosters and rabid fans, apprenticed under Chip Kelly, and he’s had time to marinate and learn from his failure with the Ducks. I bet he’d say yes, and he might not cost much. It’s a different approach than what you’re talking about, but if I were looking for a coach, I’d want to sit down with him and see how much hunger is in his eyes.
