The Latest Tennessee Head Coaching Hot Board

Tee Martin

Quick Bio: Although not a head coach, Tee Martin has been a name Vol fans have spoken about in terms of coaching for years. Martin was Tennessee’s quarterback when they won the 1998 National Championship, and he’s found success as an offensive coordinator at USC the last couple seasons. And with the Schiano madness that occurred, Vol fans will want someone with Tennessee ties more than ever.

Pros: There’s the obvious “orange blood” connection here, and that would excite a lot of Tennessee fans. Martin played in the SEC, and he’s coached there too, serving time as an assistant with Kentucky from 2010-11. His USC offense this season knows how to rack up yards and points, and he’s been an effective OC with USC the two years he’s done it.

Cons/Questions: Martin has never been a head coach, and Vol fans may not want their next head coach to be someone without that experience regardless of his Tennessee background.

  1. How about thinking outside the box since inside the box isn’t working. Hire Steele as Associate Head Coach and Defensive Co. and hire Tee Martin as Associate Head Coach and Offensive Co and let them pick their assistants. Double or triple their pay. Egos shouldn’t be as big a problem since neither are head coaches. Fans will give them the time to develop. Just sayin’….
