Kevin Sumlin

Quick Bio: Back when Tennessee was in the market for a head coach in 2010 after Lane Kiffin bolted for USC, Kevin Sumlin, who was at Houston at the time, was one of the big names being bandied about. He ultimately wasn’t hired, however, and he went on to take the Texas A&M job in 2012. Now he’s been fired from the Aggies and is looking for a job himself.

Pros: Sumlin had success at Houston and got off to a strong start at Texas A&M. He has plenty of SEC experience and is used to coaching against Nick Saban and the stout SEC West.

Cons/Questions: Sumlin was just fired for failing at an SEC school. He and his staff recruited well, but they didn’t develop those players well, especially at quarterback. Most of Sumlin’s success came with Johnny Manziel at quarterback. He has floundered in big games since.

  1. Folks this could be fixed very simply.
Hire Tee Martin and have Phil Fulmer mentor him on the administrative side of being Head Coach.
Call John Chavis and him come back as DC and Asst. Head Coach
Call Dale Jones have him come as LB and Asst. DC coach with expectations when Chief steps down he is DC
Have Peyton Manning call Jim Bob Cooter and beg him to some as OC.

    This fixes everything.
