Updated Vols Coaching Search Candidate List

Jeff Brohm

Quick Bio: Not only did Jeff Brohm play quarterback in the NFL for several seasons, but he’s turned into a fairly successful head football coach at the college ranks as well. He led Western Kentucky to one of their best seasons in program history in 2015 when the Hilltoppers went 12-2. He then led them to a 10-3 record before taking the head coaching position at Purdue.

Pros: Brohm knows offense and knows how to teach quarterbacks. He played at the highest level (even if it was sparingly), and he’s been a college coach since 2003 with Louisville, FAU, Illinois, and UAB before becoming a head coach. He led Purdue to their first bowl appearance since 2012 this season with a 6-6 record.

Cons/Questions: His buyout at Purdue is expected to be fairly large since he’s still in his first season with the Boilermakers. It’s listed at around $5 million. He also has only been at Purdue one season. It’s hard to imagine he would leave after one year, and Vol fans would be skeptical about someone with that little experience.

  1. Folks this could be fixed very simply.
Hire Tee Martin and have Phil Fulmer mentor him on the administrative side of being Head Coach.
Call John Chavis and him come back as DC and Asst. Head Coach
Call Dale Jones have him come as LB and Asst. DC coach with expectations when Chief steps down he is DC
Have Peyton Manning call Jim Bob Cooter and beg him to some as OC.

    This fixes everything.
