Tennessee thought they had their man. But Vol fans spoke up and let their voices be heard, and now the Vols are back on the market for a head coach.
Athletic director John Currie wanted to hire Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano as the Vols’ next head coach, but Vol fans, media, and politicians revolted against the hire. Ultimately, Currie backed out of the deal with Schiano. And now Tennessee is still searching for a head coach.
So who does Tennessee turn to now?
The potential hiring of Schiano seems to point to the fact that Currie and Tennessee either have been rejected by most of the “big names” on their list or didn’t reach out to some of them in the first place. Some of those big names, like Chip Kelly and Dan Mullen, have accepted jobs elsewhere as well.
With all that in mind, here’s who Tennessee is likely to target as their next head coach.
