John Currie issued his first public statement since beginning his search for Tennessee’s head coach. And it had to do with a failed head coaching hire rather than a successful one.
Currie sent out a statement via a press release about the debacle that happened on Sunday involving Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano. And in it, Currie claims that he and Tennessee “carefully interviewed and vetted” Schiano and found him to be a good fit for the Vols.
Currie also stated that Schiano received “the highest recommendations for character, family values and commitment to academic achievement and student-athlete welfare from his current and former athletics directors, players, coaching colleagues and experienced media figures.”
