Many Vol fans want former NFL head coach and current ESPN analyst Jon Gruden to be Tennessee’s next head football whenever the job becomes available. And if a recent report has any truth to it, Gruden may, in fact, come to Tennessee.
He just may not be coming to the Vols.
According to a report from Football Scoop, NFL reporter Jason La Canfora cites “league sources” in a report that Gruden will leave ESPN after this NFL season and pursue a head coaching opportunity. But La Canfora believes it won’t be a college team that Gruden leads into battle, much to the dismay of many Vol fans.
La Canfora believes that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tennessee Titans are the two teams that would intrigue Gruden the most. The Bucs are currently 2-6 this season while the Titans are 5-3 and tied for the lead in the AFC South. Neither team has let go of their current head coach, however.
Gruden last coached in 2008 and has been with ESPN since 2009. Gruden coached Tampa bay from 2002 to 2008, and he helped them win Super Bowl XXVII. He was also the head coach of the Oakland Raiders from 1998-2001.
As a head coach in the NFL, Gruden earned a 95-81 record. He suffered just three losing seasons in his 11 years as head coach, and he helped lead his teams to the playoffs five times.

If gruden goes anywhere to coach it will be Oakland/Vegas. That’s the truth. Don’t get your hopes up Tennessee.
The Titans are 1st in the AFC south. There’s unlikely to be an opening. As long as he wins, Malarkey isn’t going anywhere.
