It was reported earlier today that junior running back John Kelly and freshman linebacker Will Ignont were cited with marijuana possession late Tuesday night. And on Wednesday afternoon, the University of Tennessee announced both players will be suspended for the Vols’ game against Kentucky this Saturday.

The announcement came via a press release from the university.

“John Kelly and Will Ignont will be suspended for the Kentucky game as a result of the incident on Tuesday night,” Butch Jones was quoted as saying via the emailed press release. “Members of our football team have a responsibility to represent the University of Tennessee in a first-class manner. I met with John and Will and they understand their actions were unacceptable.”

The two were cited with possession of marijuana. Kelly was also cited for not having a functioning headlight on his vehicle and for not possessing proof of car insurance.

Kelly is Tennessee’s leading rusher in the 2017 season. He’s run for 615 yards on 125 carries and has scored six times. He’s also caught 26 passes for 255 yards on the season, and he’s leads the team in receptions.

Will Ignont has played sparingly but has made appearances in four games this season, totaling four tackles.

Freshman Ty Chandler is expected to see a large increase in snaps at running back for the Vols. Sophomore Carlin Fils-Aime and freshmen Tim Jordan and Trey Coleman could also see more snaps at running back.
