How Guarantano’s First Start Compares to Other Vol QBs

Nick Stephens

The Vols’ quarterback situation was so bad by the end of the Phillip Fulmer era that Nick Stephens was asked to come in revitalize a stagnant offense. He couldn’t, however, and Fulmer would ultimately be fired that season because of the offense’s ineptitude.

Stephens took over the starting job from Jonathan Crompton when Tennessee hosted Northern Illinois on October 4th, 2008. Stephens was just 10-of-17 for 156 yards and a touchdown in his first start, and Tennessee escaped with a 13-9 win.
