Tee Martin
Tee Martin had to immediately follow up a Tennessee legend in Peyton Manning. And Martin filled those shoes perfectly, as he and a loaded Tennessee defense went undefeated in 1998 and won a national championship.
Martin showed off some big play ability in his first ever start, even if his overall stat line wasn’t wholly impressive. The Vols eked out a 34-33 win over a Syracuse team led by Donovan McNabb to start the season, and Martin helped by completing some deep passes and using his legs to create plays.
Martin completed nine of his 26 pass attempts for 143 yards and two touchdowns while also running for 80 yards in Tennessee’s season opener in 1998.
