Brent Schaeffer
Although he was named the starter for the Vols’ 2004 season, Brent Schaeffer didn’t keep that starting job for long, and he would eventually transfer after the season.
Schaeffer and Erik Ainge split time at quarterback in their freshmen seasons, and Schaeffer was used more as the running quarterback while Ainge threw the ball more. Both were used effectively in the first game of the 2004 season.
Schaeffer helped lead the Vols to a 42-17 victory over UNLV on September 5th, 2004 to start the season. He completed seven of his 10 passes for 123 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 29 yards and a score.
