Erik Ainge would finish his Tennessee career with his name littered all over the Vols’ record books thanks to a phenomenal senior season. But he wasn’t Tennessee’s starter at the beginning of the 2004 season.

Freshman Brent Schaeffer was named the official starting quarterback for the Vols to begin the 2004 season, but Ainge, also a freshman, would eventually snag the starting spot from him. And although Ainge’s first start was disastrous, the rest of his career was not.

Ainge’s first start came against Auburn on October 2nd, 2004. He completed just 17 of his 35 pass attempts for 173 yards, a touchdown, and four interceptions.
