Butch Jones’ seat has never been hotter than it is right now with the Vols. Tennessee just suffered their worst loss at home in the modern era last weekend, and Jones has gone just 7-6 in his last 13 games after Tennessee’s 5-0 start to the 2016 season.

Tennessee has a losing record to all three of their major rivals under Jones. He’s just 1-4 against Florida, 0-4 against Alabama, and 2-3 against Georgia. He’s also just 2-2 against Vanderbilt in his career at Tennessee. Those records are skewed somewhat by the rebuilding years Tennessee endured in Jones’ first two seasons, but it’s still not excuse for the last season and a half.

For some fans, the writing is already on the wall for Butch Jones. For others, his fate will be determined in the next couple weeks when Tennessee hosts South Carolina and travel to Alabama. If the Vols can defeat the Gamecocks and not get embarrassed by Alabama, Jones may be able to stick around.

But if the Vols lose to South Carolina for a second straight season off a bye week, Jones may not even have a seat left to sit on afterwards.
