3. Will There Be a Change at Quarterback?
Through the first five games of the season, junior Quinten Dormady has progressively gotten worse.
Dormady completed 60 percent of his 55 pass attempts for 415 yards, four touchdowns, and just one interception in Tennessee’s first two games of the season. Since then, however, he’s completed just 52.4 percent of his 82 pass attempts for 510 yards, two touchdowns, and five interceptions in the last three games.
Stats like that aren’t going to cut it in the SEC. And not only do the stats look bad, but his film has looked ugly too.
Dormady has consistently thrown off his back foot, not stepped into throws, and made bad decisions. Whether it’s forcing the ball in to double or triple coverage, staring down his primary target, or not tucking and running when there’s room for him to do so, Dormady has made mistake after mistake in his first real college action.
Granted, Dormady hasn’t been helped out a lot by his offensive line and young receivers. But he still hasn’t looked good regardless.
The Vols need a spark on offense. The quickest way to try and find one is to make a change at quarterback. Redshirt freshman Jarrett Guarantano hasn’t looked stellar in what little playing time he’s had, but Tennessee’s offense needs something to shake things up. And a quarterback change could be just the thing.
