When Cortez McDowell went down for the season because of injury, Quart’e Sapp slid in and made his first career start against UMass last weekend. And all in all, his first start was a successful one. He led the team with nine tackles and performed fairly efficiently.

Now the competition steps up big time when Georgia comes to town. And Sapp’s second career start will be much tougher than his first.

This will be Sapp’s biggest test in his career thus far. How he handle’s Georgia’s talented running backs will go a long way in determining the success or failure of the linebackers in this game. Sapp needs to prove he should be starting, and the Vols need him to have at least a competent game.

  1. One of Jones biggest problems is that he plays mind games with his players with regard to playing time. Call it an inferiority complex, he has to show people whose in charge. Case in point Bituli. A tackling machine but held out because of mental mistakes. Really? Jones, you’ve had two years to coach him up. You can’t be afraid to play 2-3 string players; that’s what has gotten you in trouble (Hurd is a great example).
