2. Tyler Byrd, WR
After a solid freshman season, fans were expecting a big sophomore campaign from receiver Tyler Byrd. But so far this season he’s not recorded a single stat because of injury and just lack of playing time.
That absolutely has to change for a Tennessee receiving unit that was hit hard by injury to start the season.
Jauan Jennings is out for the season, and veteran Josh Smith only recently returned from injury. Sophomore Marquez Callaway has emerged as a viable No. 1 target, and fellow sophomore Brandon Johnson has shown the ability to be a solid No. 2 option. But the Vols need a true slot receiver to step up, and Byrd has that potential.
Byrd needs to be used more on offense, and that should start this Saturday against UMass. Butch Jones has said they plan on getting Byrd more involved on offense moving forward. It’s time to put those words into action.
