The Vols have one more non-conference game before their SEC schedule revs up, and they need to get some younger and less experienced players some more playing time to figure out what they have depth-wise heading into the most pivotal stretch of the season.
Tennessee has had trouble finding players to spell starters at key positions so far this season. Whether it’s on the defensive line, in the secondary, or at wide receiver, the Vols have a depth issue because they have so many young or injured players at those positions.
But this Saturday provides the perfect opportunity to play some reserves when the Vols take on a winless UMass team ahead of their match-up with Georgia next weekend.
Not all of the players who need to see the field more this weekend are freshmen either. Some are more experienced players who just haven’t seen much playing time this year for one reason or another.
