Guarantano’s Debut
Jarrett Guarantano made his Tennessee debut on Saturday. The numbers didn’t look great, but I thought he deserved more credit for the way he played.
A lot of times, he stood in the pocket despite pressure around him. And I thought he looked great throwing the deep ball.
But he needs more composure and calm decision-making skills. A big reason why he didn’t face a lot of pressure was because he often delivered the ball to his primary receiver sooner than necessary.
But in this case, he throws a nearly perfect pass to Jeff George.

A couple of his passes, including this one, deserved to be caught. Guarantano likely won’t play against Florida, but I don’t think his stats against the Sycamores should be held against him. Due to a lot of drops and inconsistent receiver play, Guarantano’s numbers looked a lot worse than he deserved.
