The Vols Have a New Third Down Song, and Fans Don’t Like It

Tennessee famously (or possibly infamously) had “Third Down For What” as their third down song in Neyland Stadium for the start of the Butch Jones era.  But Tennessee did away with it after the 2015 season, and last year Neyland Stadium played generic hype music to get the crowd ready for defensive third downs.

Now Tennessee has a new third down song. And Vol fans on social media do not like it.

The Vols’ official football Twitter account tweeted out the new third down song on Friday afternoon. Here’s what it sounds like:

And it’s safe to say from the reaction of Vol fans on Twitter that the song hasn’t gone over well initially.

The Vols will debut their new third down song this Saturday against Indiana State, the home opener for Tennessee during their 2017 season.

  1. I’m actually at a loss on this one. As if it’s possible to find a song that 102,000 all think is the perfect 3rd down song. Maybe it’s what pumps the players all its meant for them more than us. Afterall, they are the ones making plays on the field.

  2. Has to change. It was so nice listening to the bands play last night in the OU @ OSU game. We have a great band let them play.

  3. Why do they even need a 3rd do song? Why do they need a trashcan, they would be better suited by playing a little (lot) better. Rocky Top is fine! We have done without a 3rd down song for years and years! Same for the trashcan! Keep Rocky Top Smokey and the orange and white uniforms and things should be fine if we can talk the coach into doing his job instead of looking for gimmucks!
