Tennessee has a number of players missing their opener against Georgia Tech. And that number grew again on Wednesday.

Head coach Butch Jones confirmed during his weekly press conference that sophomore offensive lineman Drew Richmond will be suspended for the Vols’ season opener in Atlanta. According to the Vols’ official depth chart that was released on Wednesday, Richmond was the projected starter at left tackle for the Tennessee.

According to Jones, Tennessee’s starters at the offensive tackle positions will be redshirt senior Brett Kendrick and sophomore Marcus Tatum with Richmond being suspended for the game.

Jones said that if Richmond “does everything he needs to do” he should be back for the Vols’ game against Indiana State on September 9th.

As a redshirt freshman last year, Richmond played in nine games and started six games at left tackle. He should take back over as the starter at left tackle this year once he’s back from suspension.
