4. Trevor Daniel, Punter
It’s weird to see a punter on this list, but that’s just how good Trevor Daniel is and how underrated he’s actually been with the Vosl as well.
Trevor Daniel has arguably been one of the best punters Tennessee has ever had. The Vols are known for their famous Colquitt family of punters, but Daniel’s numbers have even surpassed the best of that family’s.
Jimmy Colquitt still has the best single-season mark for Tennessee in terms of punt yards per game with 46.9 yards per punt in 1982. But right now, Daniel’s career mark of 45.1 yards per punt surpasses Jimmy’s 43.9. And Daniel’s totals are better than Dustin Colquitt’s as well, and Dustin was a two-time Ray Guy Award finalist.
Daniel has never once even been a semi-finalist for the Ray Guy Award and has been, at best, a third-team All-SEC selection.
Trevor Daniel has changed the outcome of games with his punts, yet he’s still viewed, at best, as the third-best punter in the SEC by most people. Granted, there are a number of solid punters in the conference this year, but Daniel is still undervalued for what he does.
