8. Shawn Shamburger, Cornerback
Shawn Shamburger was one of the lowest-rated players in Tennessee’s 2017 class. But if his performance during fall camp is any indication of what his future holds, the freshman out of Georgia could exceed those rankings in a big way.
According to Butch Jones and the Vols’ defensive coaches, Shamburger has been one of the biggest surprises this fall. Shamburger was rated as just the 1,008th overall prospect in the country in the 2017 class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He was also ranked as just the 111th cornerback in the nation. But thus far in his young career, he’s looking much better than what those rankings foretold.
Shamburger has separated himself from the rest of Tennessee’s freshmen corners this fall and is already pushing second-year players for playing time. If he’s already doing that as a freshman, imagine what his future holds.
Shamburger entered his Tennessee career with little to no expectations. But if his first fall camp with the Vols is any sign of what the future holds, then Tennessee may very well have found a diamond in the rough.
