10. Brandon Johnson, Wide Receiver
Jauan Jennings is definitely top dog in Tennessee’s wide receiving corps. He’ll be the undoubted No. 1 target for whomever wins the Vols’ starting quarterback job. But who will step up beside him and provide support?
Right now, most of the talk around that second spot has been about sophomores Tyler Byrd and Marqeuz Callaway. But another sophomore, Brandon Johnson, has quietly put together a strong fall camp and is cementing his spot in the receiver rotation as well.
As a freshman last year, Johnson had more production than expected. Byrd and Callaway both came in as four-star prospects in the 2016 class, but Johnson was a middling three-star prospect and was ranked as the No. 88 receiver in the class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. But the freshman out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida ended up with more production than Callaway. Johnson caught seven passes for 93 yards last season despite not being thought of as a contributor by most early in the season.
Johnson isn’t grabbing the headlines some of Tennessee’s other receivers are. But he’s been just as solid and consistent this fall as them, and he should make an impact this season.
