The Vols don’t have a ton of senior talent on their roster heading into the 2017 season, but four of those seniors have done enough in their careers to catch the eyes of the people behind the Senior Bowl.
The Reese’s Senior Bowl released their watch list today, and four Vols made the list. Safety Todd Kelly Jr., tight end Ethan Wolf, safety Evan Berry, and punter Trevor Daniel were four of the over 400 student athletes who made the watch list. The list will eventually be trimmed down to 110 players who will fill out the North and South teams for the annual all-star game event in 2018.
Tennessee has had a number of players selected to the Senior Bowl in the past, including quarterback Josh Dobbs and cornerback Cam Sutton last season. The Vols have had five players earn MVP honors during the game as well. Steve DeLong (1965), Alvin Harper (1991), Charlie Garner (1994), Erik Ainge (2008) and Robert Ayers (2009) all were MVPs of the Senior Bowl.
The watch list did not include any offensive linemen, but it was noted that offensive linemen will “continue to be evaluated as the season progresses.” The Vols have three senior offensive linemen, and at least one, Jashon Roberton, stands a very good chance of being invited to the Senior Bowl when the time comes.
