The national media has been split on how to view the Vols this season. In fact, Tennessee was recently picked as both the “most overrated” and the “most underrated” team in the SEC by CBS Sports writers.
But for the most part, the national media has been fairly negative on the Vols this offseason, especially compared to this time last year. The Vols were voted to finish third in the SEC East during SEC Media Days this year, but plenty of analysts are picking the Vols to finish fourth or even lose to Kentucky in football this season.
Tennessee isn’t being picked by many to finish better than 8-4 on the season or better than third in the division. But there’s reason to believe the Vols could surprise in 2017 and end up better than anticipated.
Here are the biggest reasons why the Vols could surprise in 2017.

I see the Vols going to Atlanta twice this year.
