Tennessee’s career sack leader has had a solid start to his NFL career with some great performances in the NFL preseason. But now an injury may cause him to miss some time.
A report from Pro Football Focus says Derek Barnett could miss some time due to a “lower body injury” as described by Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson. Barnett did not practice with the team on Sunday.
Barnett had been starting to get some reps with the first team defense, but now he’s listed as “day-to-day” by Pederson.
According to the report, Pederson’s plan was to get Barnett some early work in the Eagles’ next preseason contest against the Miami Dolphins. But if the injury lingers throughout the week, Barnett’s playing time may come into question.
The good news is that Barnett’s injury doesn’t seem too serious. But after the kind of momentum he’s picked up this preseason, an injury could derail that slightly.
Barnett, Philadelphia’s first-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft, has three sacks in two preseason games this year. He recorded two in his first game and earned his third against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday.
