Pair of 2018 Vol Commits Have Huge Nights

Two of Tennessee’s commitments in the 2018 class turned in some eye-popping performances on Friday night in their first games of the high school football season.

Quarterback Michael Penix only played one half, but according to Rodney Page of the Tampa Bay Times, that’s all he needed. Penix tossed five touchdowns as Tampa Bay Tech won 51-0 over Bradley. It’s worth noting, however, that this was technically a preseason game for Tech. Penix and his squad will officially open the season next Friday at home.

The other commit who put in a full night’s work was Farragut tight end Jacob Warren.

Farragut was taken to overtime by Bradley Central to open up the season on Friday night, and Warren came up huge for the Admirals, catching the game-winning touchdown in overtime. But that wasn’t Warren’s only score on the night either. He had caught three other touchdowns before that one, giving him four on the night.

Warren would finish the game with five catches for 115 yards and four scores in Farragut’s 27-21 win. He scored all four of Farragut’s touchdowns, including a 44-yard strike.

ESPN’s Chris Low was also impressed with the senior from Farragut:

Tennessee’s highest-rated player, offensive lineman Cade Mays, also got onto the stat sheet thanks to scoring on a two-yard touchdown run for Knoxville Catholic in their 49-42 loss to Maryville to open the season.
