Butch Jones announced after Tuesday’s fall camp practice that the Vols would be without yet another player for the entire 2017 season thanks to injury.
Jones stated after practice that freshman wide receiver Jacquez Jones would miss the 2017 season due to a knee injury. Jones did not specify how the injury occurred or the details of the injury, but Jacquez Jones is the third Vol this fall to be ruled out for the 2017 season. He joins offensive linemen Chance Hall and K’Rojhn Calbert as Vols who will miss this entire upcoming season.
Jacquez Jones didn’t join the Vols until late in the summer, and chances are he would not contribute much to Tennessee in his freshmen year. All in all, losing Jones isn’t a huge blow to Tennessee’s offense, but it’s still unfortunate news for the freshman receiver.
Jones came in as a three-star recruit in the 2017 class and was rated as the No. 926 overall player in the country according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Jones was from Clearwater, Florida and was a multi-position athlete in high school, rushing for over 300 yards and hauling in over 900 yards receiving in 2015 alone.
The Vols aren’t in any injury trouble right now like they were during the 2016 season. In Calbert’s case, his injury was pre-existing before he jointed the Vols, and Chance Hall had had injury issues before this season as well. Jones could use the redshirt season, so the decision to sit him the entire year could be a little precautionary from coaches as well.
